Backup of David's Livejournal

Attn: Rosie: Beatles Covers

Last time we talked, we were talking about some covers that we like better than the originals.  I mentioned that I've got a CD of the soundtrack from Across The Universe in the car right now.

Here are three select songs from that playlist:  I Want To Hold Your Hand (very wistful), Dear Prudence (so hopeful), and Hey Jude.

[Edit] What the hey?  That link isn't working for most people.  anywhere.fm is really confused about that playlist.  I'll have to fix this over the weekend.  Sorry.

I Want to Hold Your Hand by Jennifer Cihi, from the Sailor Moon & The Scouts compilation. Erm... it kinda sucks, actually. But as a compulsive collector, I'm sure you'll find it of interest.

I gave it a listen, thanks. I may delete this post because it turns out the link is non-functional. Too bad. I liked anywhere.fm.

I haven't had a chance to listen to the soundtrack outside the context of the film's visuals. Have to admit I wasn't a fan of "I Want to Hold Your Hand" in the movie itself. "Happiness is a Warm Gun," on the other hand. Mmmm. I'm listening to the "I Am Sam" soundtrack right now, myself (currently: Ben Folds' version of "Golden Slumbers").

Yeah, that version of "I Want to Hold Your Hand" is a stretch. And part of the appeal for me is tied to the context of the movie. That sudden rush of realization that Prudence really is gay, and that this movie may have teeth. I remember not liking the Police's second version of "Don't Stand So Close To Me." I could easily not like Carpio's song for similar reasons, but that's not the case. "Happiness is a Warm Gun" is one of my favorites, too, for so many reasons. Many excellent visuals to that one. (The dancing priest, the climax...)
