Hmmm, so you don't like to just have a TabPrefs extension handle that for you? I could not stand to have windows being opened, so pretty much everything is sent to new tabs for me. And hence I never bothered looking for that pref. Were you able to figure it out? I didn't see it.
I didn't know there was an extension that did what I wanted! Here's what I do: I hold down the "Ctrl" key when I click on links that I want to open in a new tab window. But I can't do that for Google Reader, because the "V" key is the key to open articles in their own window, and Ctrl+V means something else, clipboard paste.
So, exactly which TabPrefs extension is the one that'll allow me to say, For Exactly www.google.com/reader/* force links that would otherwise open in new windows to open in a new tab.
