I was reading some feeds before going to bed today, when one of the items points out that there's a patent application claiming that Microsoft invented RSS.  The application was filed December 21st 2006.

Prepare for Microsoft bashing.  Prepare for patent bashing.  Prepare for a lockdown at the Wikipedia page.

OK.  Let me start:  Microsoft was too conservative. It really should have gone for XML itself.

You all know my deep and dear love for RSS.  I don't really care who patents it.  I can't really see it being a pragmatic concern.  The patent owner will have to pry it from my cold, dead hands.
