This weekend we saw two movies, The Losers, and The Tree of Life.
I liked The Losers even more than I thought I would. It was a pretty risky choice. It's based on a comic book, and has some pretty ridiculous elements in it. But it's got a sense of humor, and that really saved the movie for me. It worked as a whole.
But The Tree of Life? Not so much. It's critically acclaimed, but regular movie goers didn't think so much of it. I'm in the regular viewer camp. Some very beautiful scenes, but that movie didn't "do it" for me. Don't get me wrong: I'm a huge fan of slow movies about life and loss, but I'd watch Koreeda's Maborosi or After Life over and over again before I return to The Tree of Life.
