I watched Indie Game: The Movie a while ago. One thing that I really appreciated was a segment on Jonathan Blow, creator of Braid.
When he released Braid, it was met by superlatively positive reviews. But he was depressed by the reaction to its release. Everybody was wow'ed by the game's mechanics. He really wanted his audience to see past that and see the message behind the game. He wanted to connect to his audience on a deeper level. But the first reaction to Braid was superficial (see Soulja Boy's impression) and Jonathan felt like people weren't getting it.
There's something about Jonathan's reaction that I identify with, despite never having put something out there like he has.
