I loved Summer Wars. I guess one wouldn't be surprised, given how much I loved the director's previous work: The Girl Who Leapt Through Time.

I've been dropping hints for friends to get around to watching The Girl Who Leapt Through Time for a long time, now.

Also: Yoshiyuki Sadamoto? It's almost the 20-year anniversary of when I met him at AnimeCon.

He did the character design for Summer Wars, too. I'm still a big fan. <3

I actually don't watch a lot of anime never really knowing where to start. I put this one at the top of my Netflix queue by accident when you recommended it, was surprised when it showed up, and have been enjoying watching it all week. (It's been on of those weeks where I'll have about twenty minutes a day of down time to do things things like read or watch DVD's.) Anyhow, thanks for the recommendation, I quite enjoyed it. So maybe I'll have to check out this Girl Who Leapt Through Time

We loved The Girl Who Leapt Through Time! Summer Wars is one of the next few in our queue, so looking forward to seeing!

+Rob Field Oh, that was a risk, starting with Summer Wars! It could be considered a slow, heartwarming movie about the joys and trials of having a large family, with MMO gaming thrown in. And saving the world.

Hmm, if you liked that one, you might like a couple of movies by Makoto Shinkai, like Voices of a Distant Star, etc.

I watched Still Walking other day based on your recommendation. It was sad but good. How do you feel about the netflix plan change?

I'm OK with the NetFlix change, but I'm an odd duck. I like foreign films, and I like them in the original language and with subtitles. I like extras, like director commentaries. I like pristine HD video. I like old, highly-recommended movies.

So, streaming is pretty much useless for me. The movies I want aren't available, and if they were, they'd be dubbed into English, and I wouldn't even be able to choose subtitles.

So I get to cancel streaming to save money!

The majority, though, seems happy to watch the most popular movies in English for the short window they're available for streaming. NetFlix is targeting them.

I'll be sad if they cancel DVD/BD rentals and they don't make up for it with streaming availability and features.
