Saving Face

I didn't know that Saving Face had been released on DVD! I'd been looking forward to it for so long, I'd forgotten about it.

Finally got around to watching it last night, and it does turn out to be a superior effort by a first-time director. There are some perfect moments, like the first one at the vending machine, and when Vivian comes over for dinner with Wil's mom.

However, my distaste for indecisiveness or inaction got in the way of my fully enjoying the movie. To the actors' credit, they portray their roles accurately. But I couldn't help but constantly think, "Wil's getting what she deserves. She needs to take a stand."

House of Sand and Fog may have bugged me more. I just can't abide by fatalistic or weak people. Even if I know that that's the whole point of the movie. Just. Grr.

Saving Face! Ooh, I'm going to have to get ahold of it.
